In 2011, thirteen people met in the back room of Blind Lady Ale House to share their war stories, talk about UX and design, and have a few beers. During that conversation, we realized the importance of connecting and sharing with our peers, and wondered why there wasn’t more going on in our community to allow that. We decided to stop talking and start doing; and UX Speakeasy was born.
The unofficial motto of UX Speakeasy from day one has been “Easy on the Speak, heavy on the Easy”. While education and promoting UX have always been a part of what we do, UX Speakeasy has, focused on social interaction as the primary method for connecting experience design professionals in San Diego. That’s why you’ll be just as likely to see us hosting talks or conferences one month as you will happy hours and socials the next.
We believe that our UX community will progress and mature better together than apart, so we continue to offer the forum to do just that. We hope you’ll join us in the effort.
Fast Forward
Today, UX Speakeasy has grown to become a 501(c)3 nonprofit and the official San Diego chapter Of IxDA, working to elevate the role and impact of design in San Diego and the world. We do that by fostering a sense of camaraderie in the San Diego design community.
